Week 3 Portland Fit!

So, this weekend we're up to 5 miles!
Last week was a big improvement over the Week 1 snow and rain excitement.

A big group of us are going to try out Vancouver Fit on Sunday just for this weekend. I'm sure it'll be a religious experience.

See ya out there!

inspirational field trip

From the people who brought you Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz I give you Run Fat Boy Run . I was thinking we could all go see this together and indulge in healthy food and unhealthy alcohol.

Bursitis?

Yep, it's true...the chiropractor thinks I have bursitis in my right hip...two sessions of ultrasound so far and I think it's improving.

No walking for me for a few days...I think I might break the rules early in the week...

Black Bean Brownies... who knew?

Go to www.101cookbooks.com or copy and paste this link into your browser:

Sharla showed me this wonderful recipe blog which highlights awesome recipes from different worthwhile cookbooks. This recipe is a flourless brownie that uses BLACK BEANS! Maybe I'll try making some over spring break.

Check out her website for her beautiful pictures and recipes!

Happy Birthday

Saturday 3-15 9 AM

Our Saturday run will be the Hawthorne and Steel bridge loop. We'll meet in the OMSI parking lot and go from there. Be there or be square (I had to say that... since it's pi day today)!

See you at 9 AM!

Slipping and Sliding!

The Harem

Runnin' with the big dogs!

March 8 found all of us runnin' with the big dogs, and here are the pics to prove it. The day was cloudy with glimpses of sun, and after doggie introductions, we started the loop. It is amazing how heavy a little camera can become when you run up hills. I am looking forward to the next one.

It was SO SUNNY!

Wednesday is my new favorite day, too!

THE RUNNERS: Chris (in 1st place), Steve, Sharla, Evalena, and Amydelle... they went counter clockwise.
THE WALKERS: Mark, Kate, Shannon, and Kim... they went clockwise.

The weather was perfect! I am so proud of us... and the trail is so close and convenient.

After the run/walk Sharla and I went to a pilates class at the 24 hour fitness Hollywood- we met Molly there. OMG! That cute instructor gal totally kicked our butts! I think it'll be my new Wednesday routine.

Wouldn't it be cool if when I layed on my side my stomach was flat? I bet that pilates class could make that happen for me!
We'll see.

Let's run the 3.6 Wildwood/Creek/Hemlock loop this Saturday! Because Garner will be busy saving lives in the morning (and Billy needs to sleep in)... we'll meet at 12 noon!

Also... rumor has it that a run/walker might join us. So, Garner's giving plasma and might need to be carried... and the run/walkers will need our encouragement! Yeah!!!!

And I'm considering bringing a dog or two, but not four.

Glad for Glendoveer

The last run around Glendoveer was exceptionally fun! I thought about all the different ages represented and how dedicated some were to killing themselves off with a blistering pace; however, the run tuned me into what a great resource Glendoveer is for our group because it has soft trail surfaces, a loop of 2+ miles (run it short or run it lots), and it is so nearby. The scenery is so great, too. Wednesday is my new favorite day!

Wanna Die

So I am sitting here on my couch reading all of this wonderful stuff you guy's have been doing, and the thought of running is sending me in to coughing fits! I wonder when my codine enduced coma is going to set in? If you dream about running does it still count?

In short, I am really excited about getting fit with all of you, it is just going to take me few more days before I can think about taking a full breath.

Carry on!!!!!

Yoga help

Hey all y'all,

I am looking for a beginning yoga class to go to twice a week. My flexibility (among other things) needs some help. I don't want to join a formal big scary commitment gym. I am looking for someplace I can pay by the class. I would like it to be either local to the HB Lee or to my homestead in SE Portland. Any suggestions?

Kate

P.S. I look forward to bringing up the rear on tomorrows walk/run.

Running with the Harem

Nothing like running the trails in Hoyt Park Arboretum unless it would be running them with five chicks. What you get is a big dose of yak-yak and alot of laughs. Ladies, you inspired me to new levels of effort inspite of my bringing up the rear...although your chit-chat mostly did that. I can only look forward to the next time.

This is our new lifestyle!

Steve, Sue (Weir's Wife), Anney, Sharla, Molly and Amydelle should probably be referred to as the SUPER SIX.

On Saturday, the six of us parked up near the World Forestry Center and did some pretend stretching in the parking lot. It was sprinkling a little, so we kept our jackets on for the run. And a few of us took our ipods on the run despite the wonderful companionship. We needed hats and gloves because it was a bit chilly.

We went 3.6 miles up and down through the mud following the Wildwood Trail to Creek Trail, then to Hemlock Trail. We walked the hills... but pretty much ran the rest, which makes us superstars! Check out the map... we might have to do this loop again... it was just so much fun.

My poor friend Molly had a terrible stomache virus, but she made it through the run without any runs, thanks to a little Imodium.

The Pied Piper

Today I went outside during lunch...got some fresh air and walked a half mile.

Okay, so I looked a little like The Pied Piper with about 15 kids following me...We are going to have a "Getting fit club" at lunch!

Whatever will get me moving!

Finally, the big move...

Okay, so today we finally moved the treadmill from the crowded and cramped basement into the workout/storage room. Tonight I am going to take my first "walk" on the treadmill in a long time. Hoping that my achilles won't be killing me tomorrow and I will wake up 30 pounds thinner! :)

This weekend I...

This weekend I tried my new gym, Ballys. I ran into Jeannie at the gym, and she warned me that it gets pretty busy on the weekdays. So my mind is not made up about it yet, but I really liked it. It had a whole set up just for ladies with weight equipment designed for the woman's body.
So I ran for 35 minutes at 4.5 non stop. I am trying to work on my endurance. Then I did the elliptical machine for 20 minutes because I like it. The next 30 minutes were spent on lifting weights and stretching.

I took the dogs on the trails in the back of the complex. We ran sprints throughout the trails. The dogs were really good at listening during runs which was a surprise; they aren't smart. (Mingus is on top covered in grass, and Heidy is below with with flower) They are special.

Alrighty, then!

Yes, yes. We have talked and now it is time to go to work. This has been the winter of our content (and feasting), but now we will work and become like 'Ahnold', except only not as grotesquely bulgy, and with better pronounciation, and...okay...nothing like 'Ahnold', but more like Batman or Catwoman. Next fall, we will all be super-heroes.

Come On H. B. Lee!

I'm convinced that this could be the year that our middle school, H. B. Lee, gets fit.  I've been slowly trying to convince my pals to sign up for Portland Fit.  We can all support each other (and hold one another accountable) on this here blog.  Does anyone need help learning how to post?  Try it out... or come see me- and I'll show you how.

Good News and Bad News

Yah!  I finally got myself to the gym.  After running a SLOOOOOW 2 miles I have determined that I'm not all the way better, but it felt good to be back on the wagon. That's the good news.

The bad news is... when I got home I ate 2 pieces of pizza and a bowl of ice cream! Isn't that lame?  I made the mistake of buying ice cream when my throat was killing me... and now here I am still eating it.  Bowl by bowl.  So what if it's slow churned!  It's still freakin' ice cream!  Someone needs to stop me, seriously.

I'm considering going back on my anti-inflammatory crazy diet just to get my health back and be able to breathe again like a normal person.  Here's a pyramid on the this type of eating plan and I added a link (see the sidebar) to Dr. Weil's site which has some info about eating well and following this lifestyle change.

Watching TV

Why go to the gym or hit the pavement when I can curl up on the couch with my dogs and watch Survivor and Lost all in one night?  Actually, Molly was on the couch with me for part of it, too.

Still sick and sounding terribly manly!  No big training news yet... but that's awesome for Shannon for dusting off the old runnin' in place machine!  : )

Weren't our shows so good tonight?

Getting Fit

So, I have been watching those around running and getting started on this path. Wasn't I one of the one's who started this whole idea? Where have I been in the getting fit department? Oh yeah! Getting bigger and not doing anything!

Time to take control! This weekend I am moving my treadmill to the upstairs and getting started! Time to get fit!

Oh yeah! I have the inspiration now! Thanks delle!

The Flu: MOANING ON THE BATHROOM FLOOR

I'm home sick from school today... this is day 2 of my newest sickness.  This time it's the flu with extra body soreness.  I had to get a sub for two days.  I spent the morning laying in bed reading my new Runner's World and Real Simple magazines that I got this week in the mail.  I called and bugged Billy a few times and managed not to call and check in with my sub at school.

Between trips to the toilet, letting the dogs in and out, moaning on the bathroom floor, and watching my saved-up Oprah episodes... I spent some time reading some runners blogs on the internet.  Some were funny and inspiring... and I thought, "I could do that!"

So here I am.

Instead of exercising today, I'll just get inspired by creating my new Get Fit blog.
